  1.                                   FOCUSING THE EYE PIECES

  3. Be sure the eye pieces are in focus for you.  
  4.  
  5. If both eye pieces can be focused, 
  6. set them at 0 and then with a narrow 
  7. slit on either the focusing rod or on 
  8. the patient's closed lid, be sure that 
  9. both eye pieces are in simultaneous 
  10. focus.  If not adjust to bring the slit 
  11. in focus.

  13. If only one eye piece can be focused, 
  14. using only the eye with the eyepiece 
  15. that can not be focused, be sure the 
  16. slit is in focus on the focusing rod 
  17. (#1) or the patient's closed lid.  Then 
  18. looking through the other eye piece, 
  19. adjust it to bring the slit in focus.
